Pregnancy Chiropractor

Chiropractors are trained to work with pregnant women, babies and children and use a wide variety of safe and gentle techniques to help you deal with the stresses of pregnancy.

During pregnancy, your body is constantly changing as it adapts to your growing baby. It is the miracle of life. As well as the joy and excitement or your baby’s arrival, pregnancy can also cause discomfort or pain as your lower back, pelvis, hips and more make way for your child.

It is important to know that you're not alone in this. Pain is common in pregnancy. But the good news is that a Chiropractor could help!

What does a chiropractor do for pregnancy?

A woman’s body changes during pregnancy. This includes the softening of ligaments, weight changes and changes to posture. These can lead to additional pressure on joints in various parts of the body, including the spine or pelvis.

There are so many ways which seeing a Chiropractor during your pregnancy could benefit you. They can:

  • Relieve long or short term mechanical neck pain, backache and back pain

  • Neck stiffness, soreness, or neck pain caused by tension in the neck or shoulders

  • Muscle spasms

  • General aches and pains including joint and back pain

  • Sciatica

  • Help to relieve tension and help you to relax!

Our chiropractors use a combination of specific massage techniques, joint manipulation or mobilisation and can work with you on how to make beneficial day-to-day changes, stretch and strengthen specific areas and improve postural habits.

Chiropractic care in pregnancy is a safe and gentle way to promote comfort and minimise back pain during your pregnancy and may help relieve the stresses and strains on your body both during pregnancy and after birth.

Chiropractic is a gentle treatment that is also suitable for children and babies.

Our chiropractors use specific treatment techniques for babies and children which differ from those used on adults. Treatment is delicate, careful and always tailored for the individual.

FAQs

+ How often should a pregnant woman go to the chiropractor?

This would depend entirely on the situation. How long the issue has been present, how bad it is and the severity of the symptoms are just some of the factors that would affect the frequency of care.

The greater the issue, the more likely we would recommend having care more frequently. As improvements are seen we would recommend increasing the interval between visits. Once per month is a common interval between visits when there are fewer symptoms.

+ Can I see a chiropractor throughout my whole pregnancy?

Under normal circumstances, yes! Our chiropractors would always be very vigilant to ensure that nothing would be done unless we were confident that care was safe and suitable for you and your baby.

Chiropractors sometimes work with midwives, health visitors and lactation consultants. If we ever suspected something that amiss, we would help make sure that you are directed to the right person to answer any questions.

+ Can I still see a chiropractor after the birth?

Our bodies are constantly changing and especially quickly during and after pregnancy. Chiropractic treatment offers safe, gentle relief of discomfort before, during and after pregnancy.
